1923 The Rocket Famous Knockouts Overview

1923 Rocket Famous Knockouts Boxing.jpgThese cards were distributed by The Rocket publication. They were issued weekly from February through April of 1923.

It is an 11-card set featuring some of the popular boxers of the era. More specifically, it features some of the more famous knockouts of the sport. Cards have black and white images as well as the subjects’ names.

Backs of the cards gave a brief description of the fight shown as well as a preview of what card would be available in next week’s publication. That was slightly different from several other similar types of sets that merely indicated a card would be given away the following week without giving away which one it was.

The set features numerous big names, headlined by both Jack Dempsey and Jack Johnson. Johnson, in particular, is featured twice while Hall of Famer George Carpentier is seen three times.
