1904-05 Stein Company Boxing Postcards Set Overview
The Stein Company (later renamed to The Max Stein Co.) created various postcards and early boxing set is one of those.
The postcards are unique in that they do not have images printed directly onto the card stock. Instead, they are similar to 19th century sepia cards (i.e. Old Judge) that had real photographs applied to a mounting.
The postcards included a real image of a boxer along with his name. Backs included standard postcard laying without a divider line. They also included the text, “The Stein Co., Publishers, Importers, Jobbers, Chicago.”
While a later set of Stein Company/Max Stein postcards are hard to come by, postcards in this set are exceptionally rare. It is believed they were issued over a period of several years around the turn of the century.
