1888 Allen & Ginter World’s Dudes Set Overview

N31 World's Dudes TennisN31 World's Dudes BoxingLike other 1880s Allen & Ginter issues, these cards were packaged in their cigarette products. Backs of the cards state that one was included in each box of ten cigarettes.

Cards feature colorful lithographic pictures. The set depicted ‘dudes’ from around the world and men in various occupations. It is, as a result, mostly a non-sports set. However, two main sports cards are found in it – a generic boxer and tennis player.

The cards are not scarce but not overly common. Even though the boxer and tennis player are unnamed and not specific athletes, there is still demand for these cards among collectors because of the early depiction of those sports. While these two are the keys for most collectors, other minor sports are also featured, including yachting, polo, rowing, and a few others.

Backs of the cards included a checklist of the entire set.
