1922 Boys’ Magazine Boxers Overview
These cards were distributed by Boys’ Magazine publication.
It is a brief eight-card set featuring some of the popular boxers of the era. Cards have black and white images as well as the subject’s name. Backs of the cards are entirely blank and are also unnumbered.
All of the cards featured boxers not actively participating in a match. Most were either portrait pictures of 3/4 length shots but cards of Joe Beckett and the legendary Georges Carpentier were full body shots. The set included four Hall of Famers – Dempsey, Carpentier, Kid Lewis, and Jimmie Wilde.
Jack Dempsey leads the series and his card is an early one from his career. Some sources call this Dempsey’s rookie issue, even though he has earlier collectibles.
