1913 Wills Scissors Sporting Girls Set Overview
These cards were distributed by U.K. tobacco company Wills for release in its Scissors brand cigarette products. Scissors cards are generally distinctive for their red ink backs with a cartoon drawing of their packages.
The cards featured color lithographs of female athletes. While it is called the Sporting Girls series, the sports on some of the cards are really more like activities. Of note, however, are cards depicting tennis and golf in the set.
Tennis collectors should be careful when looking for the tennis card in this issue. One card featuring badminton shows a woman with a racket and, in glancing quickly without seeing the shuttlecock in the shot, it could be taken for a tennis pose.
Other sports featured here include things like field hockey, ice skating, and skiing.
Overall, these cards are not terribly easy to find.
