1926 Gartmann Tennis Overview

1926 Gartmann TennisThis oversized issue was issued by Gartmann Chocolates (Gartmann Schokolade), a German candy company. Like other international issues, this was a six-card subset that was part of a larger overall set. Other sports are featured, too, including a boxing subset, as well as subsets for soccer and winter sports.

The cards are tall and narrow, similar to some of the vintage Topps basketball issues of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Cards feature color pictures of tennis players on the fronts and a relatively long bio of the subject on the back in brown ink.

The tennis series is #582 as indicated on the fronts and a card number is printed there as well.

The size and shape of the cards is notable. They are tall and thin, measuring 1 3/4″ x 3 11/16″ in size, almost like a miniature bookmark. The card stock is a bit thicker than traditional early candy cards.
