Liebig Children Become People Trade Cards Overview

Liebig Children become People Tennis Trade CardThese trade cards were distributed by Liebig, a popular extract company. The fronts depicted a variety of colorful scenes. Of most interest to American sports collectors are two tennis cards.

Some of Liebig’s cards are in English while others are in German or French. This particular issue is in German and titled, ‘Kinder werden leute.’ Translated literally, it means Children Become People. However, the set is also sometimes referred to as children coming of age or children growing up.

The pictures feature young adults in a variety of situations or professions. One person is featured prominently on each card with various others in the background. On two of the cards, women with tennis rackets are seen in the background.

The cards were made to advertise Liebig’s products. In addition to the pictures on the front, a can of the product was prominently displayed. Like other trade cards, the backs included an advertisement for the product.

Liebig printed trade cards for decades. As was the case here, many of their sets included a total of six cards.
