E103 Williams Caramel Overview

E103 02 Bresnahan.jpg

The 1909 E103 Williams Caramel set includes 30 cards. The cards feature color portrait images on the fronts with player names and teams at the bottom. Below that is “The Williams Caramel Company,” identifying the distributor based out of Oxford, PA.

Because the pictures are all portrait cards, it might not be as appealing to some collectors who prefer pictures with action shots. The cards feature the same red background on each one and  with blank backs, are a little bland from a pure aesthetic point of view. Many of the portraits are found in other sets such as the T206 set or the M116 Sporting Life set.

The stock of the cards is a bit thinner than other issues and, as a result, many have sustained significant damage.

But the set includes numerous Hall of Famers and is anchored by Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner. Other key players from the era such as Christy Mathewson and Nap Lajoie are here, too. And since the issue is significantly more scarce than other more popular caramel cards, it is a desirable and valuable set.
