1925-31 Postcard-Backed Exhibits Overview

1925-31 Exhibit PC Back.jpg

From 1925 through 1931, a series of unclassified Exhibit postcards were printed. These are similar to other Exhibit issues and can be black and white or have a variety of colored tint fronts. Backs have a standard postcard printing, although some have been found with blank reverses.

The fronts have player images and their names printed in a variety of styles. Some are printed in a standard font while others are italicized. A few were even printed inside of boxes. In addition, some players (such as Hall of Famer Ty Cobb) have different team names to reflect trades/moves. Most of the team changes also did not use updated images. Rogers Hornsby, for example has three different postcards. However, his Cardinals and Braves postcards both show him in a Cardinals uniform.

Other variations existed regarding the photos. Most images had an actual background but others did not. While there are 69 different cards counting all of the variations, there are significantly fewer if those are not taken into consideration.

Over the same time period, a smaller set of postcard-backed exhibits was also printed. Those, however, featured four pictures of players to a postcard.
