1928 Red Grange “One Minute to Play” Postcards Overview

Grange Exhibit (One Minute to Play)Red Grange One Minute to Play Postcard 1

This series featured football star Red Grange. Grange appeared in a movie entitled, “One Minute to Play” and was featured as a part of this three-card set of postcards.

Each postcard identifies Grange in the scenes depicted as well as the name of the movie, “One Minute to Play.” Two of the three postcards feature Grange in street clothes and a third features him in a football scene. The postcard featuring him as a football player is the one generally desired most by collectors.

In the movie, Grange plays a high school football star named Red Wade, who wants to play football in college against his father’s wishes. At the time in 1926, Grange had just begun his pro football career.

But he was wildly popular out of college already and the movie capitalized on that. Despite being a pro, Grange was only 23 at the time so it wasn’t a huge stretch for him to play a part as a college player.

Other collectibles featuring Grange in the movie are also known. One was the 1926 Shotwell Candy set that included a total of 24 cards.
