1907 The Coming Champs Postcards Overview

Coming Champs Football PostcardThese postcards featured color images of children with a particular sport being represented on each. Im general, there is one child featured in the front with equipment from the sport with onlookers in the background.

The set features some minor sports but also has baseball and football. Those are the two most desirable cards in the set.

The title, ‘The Coming Champs’ is printed at the top and a small typo exists as they actually read, ‘Coming Champ’s’ instead. The name of the artist, ‘Beaty’ is also added to the front.

All of the postcard backs have a simple divider line and also a card number. Some of the postcard have the Commercial Colortype Company (Chicago) name next to the number while others do not.

Some samples of these postcards are also known. Instead of a blank area in the message side, there is a message from the Commercial Colortype Company, advising how vendors can purchase large quantities of the cards. 100 were sold for $1.25 and 1,000 could be purchased for $10.00. They appear to have been targeted towards business related to the sport. For example, I have seen the golf card with the offer that was sent to a Golf Club.
