228. Girl with Fireplace Trade Card Overview
This was a trade card that promoted various businesses.
The card served as an advertisement for different ventures that printed their company information on it. The picture is only nominally a baseball one.
A small child is seen standing in front of a fireplace. Around her are several toys, including a baseball and a baseball bat. It is a trade card featuring a Christmas scene as evidenced by the garland and wreath decorations.
Many collectors might believe this to be a particularly difficult trade card to find. But while it may be tougher than other series’, its rarity is likely a bit overstated.
These cards, frankly, are not quite as rare as they appear. They are often simply not labeled as a baseball trade card, making it difficult to search for them. Many sellers simply label this as a Christmas scene or otherwise and do not make the connection to this as a true baseball card.
This card was numbered separately by noted trade card collector Frank Keetz in his book, “Baseball Advertising Trade Cards, 3rd Edition.” It was a trade card he identified but did not have a printed title on it. Because of that, he catalogued it with a number instead, which is the number in the title shown here.
