Tower Theatre Mickey Cochrane Photo Premium Overview
This photo appears to be some sort of promotional premium item featuring Hall of Famer Mickey Cochrane.
At first glance, it appears like it could simply be a picture given to the theater by Cochrane. However, this one is autographed individually to someone named ‘Johnny’ and the other part mentioning the boys and girls at Tower Theater is a replica. My guess is that these were likely distributed as some sort of promotion.
Many different theaters with the same name appear around the country. However, Cochrane played with only the Philadelphia Athletics and Detroit Tigers. While there was a Tower Theatre in Detroit, Cochrane is pictured with the Athletics here. The likely Tower Theatre referenced here is one in Upper Darby, which is just outside of Philadelphia. That theater was opened in 1927.
Notably, this was not Cochrane’s only movie theater item. He also was included in a set distributed in 1929 by Lindy Theater.
The date of this issue is unknown but Cochrane dated his signature to 1930 and the top of this photo has the date of 1929 written on it.
