229. Ball Hitting Player in Nose Trade Card Overview

229 Trade CardThis was a trade card that promoted various businesses.

The card served as an advertisement for different ventures that printed their company information on it. The picture includes a black and white drawing of a baseball player. Like many trade cards, this one has a comical spin since he is being hit brutally on the nose. This particularly card is somewhat rare and you don’t come across too many of them.

Businesses could use the bottom portion of the card along with the back to print their information. The bottom portion that is blank is particularly large for that reason. The one shown here is a stock card that does not yet have the advertising printed on it.

This card was numbered separately by noted trade card collector Frank Keetz in his book, “Baseball Advertising Trade Cards, 3rd Edition.” It was a trade card he identified but did not have a printed title on it. Because of that, he catalogued it with a number instead, which is the number in the title shown here.
