238. The Sporting Goods Dealer Trade Card Overview
This was a trade card that promoted a publication.
The card served as an advertisement for The Sporting Goods Dealer, a monthly publication for dealers and manufacturers of sporting goods. The trade card was really a rate card that listed the costs for advertising in the publication. A full-page advertisement cost $35.00.
Pictures of numerous sports are printed on the cards. Baseball is the most prominent one and others included golf and hunting. The card looks similar to some gaming issues since it has rounded corners.
This card was numbered separately by noted trade card collector Frank Keetz in his book, “Baseball Advertising Trade Cards, 3rd Edition.” It was a trade card he identified but did not have a printed title on it. Because of that, he catalogued it with a number instead, which is the number in the title shown here.
