H804-10 Corner Clef Trade Cards Overview
This set is part of the baseball comic series of trade cards.
The cards feature a variety of humorous baseball scenes. They are a little different in appearance from other trade cards based on their unusual color scheme.
As opposed to other trade cards, these have a rather dark, mysterious look. Instead of using full color lithography, the producer of this set printed the cards using only black ink against a pale greenish background. The set gets its name from the odd design in the corners, which is sort of a modified clef symbol used in music.
The set includes seven cards of baseball players and one that is a rear view of an umpire.
While the lack of color may appear kind of boring, the set stands out because of it. Similar to how the T207 cards are such a contrast to other tobacco cards in the era, this set appeals to some for its unique look.
As is the case with most trade cards, these are fragile and printed on thinner card stock. For that reason, they can be torn or ripped quite easily and damaged easier than standard baseball cards.
