222. Brownies with Pea Pod and Vegetables Trade Cards Overview
This was a trade card that featured a comical baseball scene.
The card shows two teams of brownies playing a baseball game. As with some other brownies trade cards, oversized equipment is used. For baseballs, the teams are playing with peas, which are proportionally bigger than would typically be used to play the sport.
A hectic scene is being played out. As a pitcher is preparing to throw the ball, two baserunners are apparently stealing bases. Several fielders have their hands up calling for the ball. Meanwhile, brownies are also seen playing inside of a nearby pea pod that is securing the balls.
This card was numbered separately by noted trade card collector Frank Keetz in his book, “Baseball Advertising Trade Cards, 3rd Edition.” It was a trade card he identified but did not have a printed title on it. Because of that, he catalogued it with a number instead, which is the number in the title shown here.
As identified by Keetz, the card shown here is apparently part of a series of vegetable cards.
One noteworthy point about this card is that it is paper thin. While many trade cards are on thinner stock, this one is printed on remarkably thin paper.
