1921 Queen City Cigar Store Overview
Queen City Cigar Store cards are one of the many sets that utilized the design/checklist from the popular W575-1 strip card set and/or E121 American Caramel set. The cards feature a black and white player image along with his name, position, and team at the bottom.
Backs of the cards is what distinguishes these from other W575-1 and E121 card issues.
The back design of the Queen City Cigar Store was one of the most unique of all of the sets utilizing the W575-1 and E121 layout. The store, it seemed, served numerous purchases. Located in Sioux Falls South Dakota, the store did much more than simply sell cigars.
According to the ad on the back, the location was a billiard parlor, a news stand, a soda shop, a seller of candy, and also proivded game results for the South Dakota League Baseball games. In addition, they provided free employment, telephone, railroad times, and other information.
1921 Queen City Cigar Store Checklist
Not many Queen City Cigar Store cards have been found to date. In addition, a complete W575-1 checklist has never been fully confirmed. That checklist, however, lines up closely with the E121 American Caramel checklist. For that reason, I have listed that checklist below and these would seem to be potential cards that could have a Queen City Cigar Store back.
