Haas Remedy Trade Cards Overview

Haas Remedy Nine Trade Cards.jpgThese are trade cards promoting a medical remedy brand.

The cards advertise Dr. Haas’ veterinary medicines and feature animals. The set is almost entirely a non-sports issue and was distributed over several years in the 1880s. But in addition to two boxing cards and some smaller sports, such as ice skating and roller skating, a baseball card is included.

The card features the ‘Haas Remedy Nine,’ a fictional baseball team of pigs defeating a sickly group of pigs. Interestingly, while all of the players are pigs, a human umpire and scorekeeper are shown as well.

An outside fence states that Haas remedy prevents cholera and the caption at the bottom of the white-bordered card says that ‘The Haas Remedy Nine Defeats the Cholera Nine Every Time.’ The lithograph print was developed by the Bufford Lithograph Company.

You can see pictures of all of the cards in the set here.

A total of 75 cards are in the set but the baseball card is the only one from the four major sports included.
