1890s H804-18 Red Socks Trade Cards Overview
This set is part of the baseball comic series of trade cards. In general, they are extremely rare and prices for ones in decent condition can range from $50-$100. They are rarely seen, even on popular sites such as eBay.
The cards feature a variety of baseball scenes. The set gets its name from the distinctive red socks worn by some of the players in the set, such as the fielder in this card shown. A faint title for each card is also printed on it. The cards can be blank, such as this one, or have printing on them from a particular advertiser at the top or on the back.
In addition to the red socks that make these cards known to collectors, the small text of “B 935” is printed on them as well.
Precise dating on the set is not known. However, I have seen a few of these advertising early 1890s events so I have dated it as such. It possible, of course, that they were printed a bit earlier and merely used into the 1890s.
As is the case with most trade cards, these are fragile and printed on thinner card stock. For that reason, they can be torn or ripped quite easily and damaged easier than standard baseball cards.
