1933-34 Worch Cigar American Association Overview
Like the 1932 Worch Cigar set and the 1933 Worch Cigar cards, these included black and white images with blank backs. At nearly 3 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ size, they were also the same size as the previous year. A thin white border is around the edges of photos and the photos have player names on them in a variety of style.
The biggest difference between this set and the other 1933 issue is that this one includes minor leaguers in the American Association while that one had professional players. Photos were available as a redemption for cigar bands from Worch Cigars.
The easiest way to differentiate these photos from the other issues is the unique way the names appeared and also small icons on the front that identify which newspaper the photo was from (i.e. St. Paul Daily News, Minneapolis Journal, etc.).
One interesting aspect of the set is that some variations are included. Some players have both a photograph without any background while others have a real background.
