1920-30 Chocolat Mirault Set Overview
This extremely rare set is said to have been produced in 1920-30 by Mirault Chocolates. While the Mirault name appears on them, I have not seen any evidence to support the dating. It is possible this could be a suggested range of production, though that is unclear.
The cards are very difficult to find in the U.S. To date, PSA has graded only a few cards from the set. However, unless they are skip numbered, we know the set includes more than 100 cards as some have been found with card numbers greater than 100.
They do come up for sale every now and then here in the U.S. but not very often. While it was a multi-sport set, the keys for most collectors are the boxing and tennis cards. Boxing stars include Jack Dempsey and Gene Tunney. The tennis side sports Hall of Famers, including Bill Tilden, Helen Wills Moody, and Rene Lacoste.
The cards featured black and white images of athletes on the front along with their name, thick cream borders, and a card number. The Chocolat Mirault name appears on the back in a very short ad that reads, “Exigez le Chocolat Mirault.” Translated, that roughly means ‘Require Mirault Chocolate’ or ‘Demand Mirault Chocolate.’
