1911 PE2 Diamond Gum Pins Overview
The Diamond Gum pins are similar to other same-type products of the era and sort of a sister to the PE1 Mascot Gum pins. The primary difference is that the Mascot Gum pin set included only minor league players from Rochester’s baseball team and the Diamond Gum set includes major league players. The Diamond Gum pins also have a blue border with the words “Free with Diamond Gum” printed around the edge.
The pins feature a picture of a player on the front with his name. The back contains the following advertisement for Diamond Gum:
“Get a collection of ball player’s buttons free with Diamond Gum.”
It should be noted that while the set is comprised almost entirely of major leaguers, two players from Rochester are sometimes considered to be in the set as well. However, I am not sure photos if those two players (Ryan and Savidge) have been fully documented, so I’ve left them off of my checklist for now.
