1886 H812 New York Base Ball Club Trade Cards Overview
This is an extremely rare set of early trade cards featuring players from the New York Base Ball Club.
This issue is significantly different from other trade cards of the same era in that instead of colorful baseball images of unknown subjects, these include black and white pictures of actual players. These cards more closely resemble the drab appearance of early sepia cards, such as Old Judge, than they do other trade cards from the 1880s.
The cards include a black and white portrait shot of a player with his name and the words “New York Base Ball Club” appear at the top.
As is the case with other trade issues, the cards can be found with different advertisers printed on the bottom. These ads encouraged collectors to smoke tobacco products.
