H804-23 Tobin Major League Players Trade Cards (No.
149) Overview
This set is part of the baseball comic series of trade cards. Noted collector Frank Keetz assigned it the designation used in his book, “Baseball Advertising Trade Cards 3rd Edition.”
The cards feature a variety of humorous baseball scenes. The set is similar to the H804-22 issue but different because it has different captions and doesn’t use the names of real players. For that reason, the cards aren’t quite as pursued as those. Still, the design and appearance of these cards has confused some collectors who mix up the H804-22 and H-804-23 sets. These cards in the H804-23 set also include a small ‘149’ printed on them, which helps serve as an identifier.
Interestingly, there are only nine cataloged cards in this set as opposed to Tobin’s H804-21 and H804-22 sets, which both had ten. As this was also a Tobin-produced set, it is possible that a tenth card for it may exist.
Most trade cards can be found with a variety of advertisers and that is no exception here. For that reason, you will find these with different retailers’ names printed on them.
