237. Old World New World Trade Card Overview

237 Trade Card.jpgThis was a trade card that promoted a shoe brand.

The card served as an advertisement for Little Red School House Shoes. Pictured are two men with globes for heads. The old man, representing the Old World, has Europe, Asia, and Africa on his head. The younger man has the ‘New World’ head with North America and South America.  The card is considered a baseball issue because the younger man is holding a baseball bat.

On the card, the older man is complimenting the younger man. The younger man credits his success to the Little Red School House Shoes. Advertisers that likely distributed these shoes printed or stamped their names on the cards as well.

This card was numbered separately by noted trade card collector Frank Keetz in his book, “Baseball Advertising Trade Cards, 3rd Edition.” It was a trade card he identified but did not have a printed title on it. Because of that, he catalogued it with a number instead, which is the number in the title shown here.
