Adam Hats Premiums Overview
Adam Hats was a hat company founded in 1924. To help promote its business, the company used pictures of celebrities with quotes about the hats. The first photos are believed to have been printed in the 1930s but some were also produced later as well.
The photos contain a mix of sports and non-sports personalities, including baseball players, at least one hockey player, and boxers. Movie stars were also included as well in addition to the sports photos. At least four different types exist. One is in color and includes replica signatures of the personalities while another is in black and white (also with the signatures). Others also include different designs and were printed in black and white as well.
In addition to the photos of celebrities wearing the hats, Adam Hats also featured some of their pictures on matchbooks along with possibly other items.
A note of classification is that the American Card Catalog mentions a set of 8″ x 10″ photos of boxers and lists the series as H815 Prize Fighters. However, I believe that to be a separate issue from this set for two reasons. First, this set includes more than simply boxers and second, in his American Card Catalog book, Jefferson Burdick cites H815 as being a ‘recent set’.
